Dave, I’ve been following & listening to your work via podcasts for years & it has always enlightened, amused, & elucidated me & was something to which I always looked forward. Even though the beginning of this letter was some bitter truth - the ending was sweet & even more impactful in its truth because it’s something on which one can act. So, taking a beat out of the chaos of life to say, *thank you, thank you, thank you*!!!

Thanks for this Dave! In my parasocial friendship with you we have sat down over a few glasses of wine and really hashed this out! Thoughtful piece and I’m sharing widely with friends and fam. Happy new year

Hi Dave. This “Five Things I Learned” piece was a refreshing dose of clear-eyed candor and realism in the face of much end-of-year faux-cheeriness and smiley-face forced optimism (or denialism). While I appreciate the ending note of the piece (and yes, we need each other so much and need to care for each other!), your willingness to articulate the precariousness and sense of flux we’re all experiencing in our world right now--on numerous levels, in numerous ways--resonated with me; hearing your perspective made me feel less alone in my worries and anxieties. And as worrisome as things are right now, it’s so important, as you pointed out, to know that we’re NOT alone, that there are like-minded others out there that are trying their best to make positive change, to create things, and to bring some light amidst the darkness. I remain grateful for your work, and I’m proud to do my small part in supporting your efforts.

As usual Dave, you have a knack for breaking this stuff down in simple but eloquent ways. I've been reading and listening to your work for so long and I get so much out of it. Currently listening to the Filmcast top ten episode in my work travels today and loving it.
