Thanks Michael! If I can peel back the curtain a bit: I always like to come up with a rough outline of my list before I start writing, to make sure I don’t miss any of my favorites. Sometimes I pencil in a pairing already knowing exactly how they’ll connect, but other times it’s just a vague idea and a hope that I’ll find something in the writing process. Challengers / The Brutalist is my favorite example of one where most of the connections were total surprises to me.
This is a great way to do EOY lists and you do it really well. I hope next year everyone tries to do this in tribute to the service you've provided. Yours, makes me really frustrated with the more simple lists that everyone else provides. You raise the bar for everyone else Stephen. Thank you.
I always enjoy your end of year movie pairings, Stephen. Thanks for the great work.
Beautifully written Stephen, love this format of cinematic pairings.
Love this exercise, Stephen! Especially the pairing of “Challengers” and “The Brutalist”.

Such a fun process of discovery, Stephen! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 I can relate to that feeling of finding it on the page!
